Day 21 and 22 - Black is back

This week I decided to find some items (those being black) that I had not worn for sometime and knew that they would also be work appropriate. This was just to test my skills when it came to digging for items that can be forgotten about so quickly when new items take place in front of the wardrobe.

I wanted to stick with the chic and stylish all black ensemble. And it wasn't as thought I thought about doing it two days in a row but more about searching for items that I have never worn together or worn for many years.

The first outfit was an old Cue top with a pencil skirt which believe it or not was purchase from K-mart. It is amazing what you can find when in department stores. Shoes are the Aldo ones which get a look in at least a couple of days per week. These were purchased in the states over a year ago and they are comfortable and go with most plain outfits that require a little something extra.

My next outfit for Day 22 was another black set. Again these pieces had not be worn for sometime. I think the skirt for at least a year (it didn't fit while being pregnant) and the top for at least a couple of years. Again I tried not to do a black shoe but a nude/brown shoe.

These shoes were also purchased from Aldo but only a couple of months ago. The skirt from Sussan a couple of years ago. This has been a great skirt, not only can I wear it to work but I have also worn it with flats for a weekend look and a pair of stilettos for an evening look. You can definitely create a simple and diverse wardrobe with only a few key pieces. The shirt is at least 3 0f 4 years old but really gives it a corporate type feel with the skirt and patent belt.

I am starting to find that there are so many options just staring at you each day when you get ready for work, but if we only take a few minutes to look a little deeper into our wardrobes we might actually find the unexpected.

I think you can also be more creative with less pieces (I can't believe I just said that, please don't tell my husband). All of these items are somewhat staple wardrobe essentials and can be used with so many different pieces to create different looks for a variety of occasions whether it be work, going out, running errands or simply going out for lunch on the weekend.

Looking back at some of my combinations so far in the challenge I can see that there are many pieces that will start to go with each other. Hence I am sure you can do this type of challenge for longer than 60 days. Gone are the days of nothing to wear.

Day 20 - Key Pieces

As the weather warms up its time to bring out some of the cooler items from the wardrobe. Today I wore a new season skirt from Country Road, an old top with a belt. I am loving the maxi skirts that are starting to come through for this season. I am a huge fan of the maxi dress however due to feeding commitments, dresses are a little hard to do at the moment. I originally saw this skirt in one of the monthly fashion magazines (either Madison or Instyle) and thought it would be an excellent staple for the summer ahead. I think I checked their website weekly and would go into the store to see when the item was being released. How tragic is that. But you you see something you know you want and will wear then it certainly is worth the effort. I teamed the whole outfit with a pair of gold gladiator sandals.
The sandals were purchased a couple of seasons ago from Nine West. Great investment and will go with just about anything during the summer period. The beauty of this challenge is really uncovering items from your wardrobe that you simply forgot existed and then thought 'why don't I wear these more often'.

Inspiration comes from many sources and magazines is certainly one of those. This was a great idea for a summer look, simple yet easy to wear with a classic vibe. This skirt alone is such a key piece and will have a long and prosperous summer.

Day 19 - 1st time for everything

For the first time in I don't know how long (lets say 10+ years) I decided to wear a relatively new pair of shorts (new being, purchased pre challenge). I have never been overly comfortable in shorts however I found a pair which I quiet liked and suit an hourglass or pear shaped figure. I hate shorts that don't sit right, are uncomfortable and you can see that they just don't look right. These shorts have a more tailored side to them and together with a classic singlet and my wedges it was a pretty good casual look for the day.

I have noticed that over the past few months, shorts are certainly on their way back. The short ones as well as the ones that come just above your knee. I remember wearing shorts many years ago that would be quiet fitted and come just above your knee and with a platform shoe. It is funny how fashion goes around in circles. Its a pity that we cleanse our wardrobe so often as I am sure there would be many outfits I have given away that could be worn today. Although I am not sure they would fit. Probably best we do keep cleansing and then we don't have those ugly reminders of how fantastic we used to look in a tiny outfit that would bare scrap over my thigh...oh they were the days.

Day 15 - Working it

I am finding that this challenge is easier on a work day. Why,because that is when you can wear a lot of your wardrobe and are not limited to only casual non work day outfits. You can sometimes be a little more creative on these days rather than the uninteresting ones you wear when at home for the entire day where you don't really need to make much effort.

Today's outfit is a combination of old meets new. I teamed a fantastic print top with black pants and a shear cardigan with a pair of heels. I recently bought these at Aldo and on sale nevertheless. Aldo has one of the best ranges of shoes and their soles last forever. Not only comfortable these were a nice take on the boring work shoe we all seem to have.

The top is one of those items that I have owned for a while now and it just seems to go with everything so it might pop up every now and then throughout the challenge due to its diverse nature.

My apologies for the dark picture.

Day 14 - Cheating

You have to admit that over the past couple of weeks since starting this challenge I have been cheating. Well common, I haven't really been putting myself to the test by going to the shops or even out for coffee to James Street where the shops are funky and fabulous and where it is easy to either window shop or spend up big in the space of a couple of hours. Since starting this challenge I have added an extra day to my work schedule and with a busy job and many projects on at once I have even taken some work home which then calls for me to be glued to the computer for at lease a few hours each day.

I realise that the temptation is still there (online stores are open 24 hours), but that would mean I would have to use my credit card. And at the moment that is a no go zone, my Chief Financial Officer monitors it closely so I would then have to explain the unforeseen transaction or the unidentified parcel waiting for collection at Australia Post. Seriously, it's not worth the hassle. It's not like I can't use the credit card, its just the conversation that goes with using it, 'do I really need to go shopping online' and 'why do you need more clothing (or shoes)'. That my friend is the downside of a sharing and caring relationship.

I have gone down that path of a secret credit card. And please if you were to tell me that you have never heard of such a thing... YOUR LYING if not to me but to yourself. Most of my friends have the 'secret credit card' or 'secret women's money'. This is the available balance that lets us do that little bit of guilty free shopping that doesn't come with the conversation. It's great while you can keep it a secret after that you have to become more creative. I will talk about that later throughout this challenge.
Today's outfit was for work and I am happy to report that the top had never been worn... or that is until today. I bought it years ago and forgot I even had it. It was a little tight around the breast area but I have to be forgiven as my boobs are huge due to breastfeeding. The pants are different from the ones earlier in this challenge but nevertheless great for work. I think the whole combination was a little on the creative side and really thinking about what you have and taking the risk in putting it all together. The belt was really the focal point. Tan leather with diamante embellishment on the buckle. I love this belt but disappointed that I never seem to bring it out more often. All in all I think this was perfect for a day at the office.

Day 13 -Winter revival

With all of this windy and unpredictable weather I found myself going through the winter collection of my wardrobe over the past couple of days. This faux fur vest would have to be one of my favourites, and trust me it has had its fair share of daylight. Bought for me by a friend overseas it has been a staple in the wardrobe. It is warm yet comfortable and I think it goes with most outfits.

As it was a little colder this morning and we decided to go out for breakfast I went straight for the denim, boots and fur jacket. The boots are also a great investment. Bought on sale from Nine West (although when I say sale, they were still $150). However money well spent. These boots are a wedge calf boot and in brown leather they are perfect for the winter months. Since purchasing them a few months ago, I have given them a good work out. Wedges are one of those great inventions, they give you the height of a heel would but with the stability of a flat shoe and without the incredible pain heels might give after many hours on your feet. I have worn them with denim, tights, dresses and skirts. And know that they will be around for a few more seasons yet.

While I love winter and the winter wardrobe you start to look forward to mixing it up and unleashing all of those cooler options once the weather warms up. This year I am certainly going to the bottom of the wardrobe in search for spring outfits without the spring price tag. In other words for the next 40 + days I am unable to do the yearly 'shopping for summer' ritual. I am going to find those summer outfits that I have put away, so lets hope they fit. Every year summer comes around and it is always a perfect excuse to do a little retail therapy, especially if you have added a few winter kilos after eating pudding and pie over those cold months. Again another excuse.. my clothes don't fit, I NEED new ones (yes we always NEED them, don't we!!). I think I am going to surprise myself this year and pull out some old favourites or even those little dresses they were a great buy at the time but since then have had nice time stuffed in the back of the wardrobe.

Day 12 - Shopping..yay

Today I went shopping.... but before you run off and think I have failed. Sorry not likely. Today I went shopping... for my husband. See it wasn't so bad after all. It's my husbands birthday so the little guy and I took for the shops. And yes it is hard to resist when Myer is having a sale and so is half the other retailers at my local shopping centre. However on the other side I was able to purchase my husband some much needed attire.

He is one of those people that doesn't think buying new clothes are necessary until they are falling apart and has multiple torn marks (and that's just his underwear.... another story some other time). He thinks that wearing the same t shirt and jeans that no one will notice (sorry I mean the same selection of a 5 day wardrobe). The fabulous Gok - from Gok's Fashion Fix (on Lifestyle You) talks about having a capsule wardrobe consisting of 24 pieces. Seriously my husband possibly does this in 10 (shoes included). And without sounding as though I am the one shopping and taking up all the spare room in the closet. Actually, he takes up just as much room. There are more t-shirts than he knows what to do with. But like more of us he only wears 20% of his wardrobe... more likely 5%.

Men are just as bad as women, however at least we admit to it. And at least I clean mine out every now and then. He has drawers full of clothing that would never see the light of day in a million years. That wardrobe space could really come in handy...for me!!

Today was a little revisit from the winter collection of tights and tunics. Sorry not picture but it was a basic black tight with a simple cotton tunic and a pair of flat knee high suede boots. These boots were a god send during the winter months while being pregnant. They were flat, comfortable and stylish while giving me some much needed rest from the 5inch heels. They were the best investment and hope that will be for a few more seasons to come. The combination today was the perfect shopping outfit, especially since I had my little boy in a sling so it was easy to get around while being comfortable.

Day 11 -Killing me slowly

Why is that when you take on a challenge like this, one of my favourite shops has a fantastic promotion that generally I would be lining up to purchase from. With the new age of social media (facebook, twitter and the alike). We are one step closer to knowing when sales are on, new stock has arrived and what's hot for summer from the shops we frequently visit.

This is one of the downsides of this challenge. I see updates, pictures and promotions where you would just love to jump online or head down to do some retail therapy. But not to worry I haven't broken myself just yet. I could simply unlike these pages or unsubscribe from e-newsletters but hey that wouldn't be fun. Call me torture or just kill me now!!!

So while I start to receive all of these enticing offers I simply stick to visit friends and catching up with some clients. I took the casual approach to a overcast day and went with my dark denim jeans a stripped singlet and wrap cardigan. As for the shoes, these jeans need some much needed height, so out come the wedges I dearly love.

The advantages to receiving these updates as you don't fall too far out of touch with the so called 'retail world'. I have done this before and next you know the 90's are now the 00's and that hair style you once loved looks like something your cat ate for breakfast. You always thought it was a good thing at the time. However temptation is never too far away.

Day 10 - 50 Days to go

This was yet another day where I was busy between work and going to the movies that by the time I arrived home, I forgot to get a shot of todays outfit.

As I had training and a couple of meetings all day followed by a movie session with the girls from work. I was able to go a little bit casual. But that doesn't mean thongs and a singlet. No I still where 5 inch heels, even on a bad day. I teamed these with dark denim jeans (see tomorrow for a pic of the jeans), a green top with ruffles down the front and a black jacket. It's casual with a hint of business (the black jacket that is). Again there is really no jewelry items except for the usual simple earrings and wedding rings. I am going to seriously look into accessories after this has finished.

Days like this when we need to zip out after work always calls for careful planning in the morning (or the night before, whatever the case might be).

Day 9 - Recovering

I actually can't believe I have made it all the way to Day 9. Although I have to admit that I haven't even been anywhere near the shops....phew.

This was a day for me and my little boy to recover from our little colds. Two days at work and with a cold isn't ideal together with limited sleep. So we decided to stay in bed a little longer and recover. I guess today's post doesn't have much content when it comes to my wardrobe selection. Especially when you are focused on staying at home for most of the day it is good just to relax in pj's or a tracksuit. So don't think you need to see that one.

In the afternoon we decided to go off and do some posting. I have been trying to clean out my wardrobe throughout this challenge and some items I just think charity without a second thought. However there is some shoes that are still in boxes and think 'let's try my luck on ebay'. Now if my husband is reading this I suggest you stop NOW... otherwise you will be disappointed.

I don't really care how much shoes make on ebay as long as I get the postage and they disappear from my wardrobe, I am happy. Well this week was a little different. One pair of shoes sold for 99 cents. That's ok because I was never going to wear them again and because I charged $10 for postage I wasn't going to be out of pocket. Or that's what I thought.

Due to being busy and not well it had taken me over a week to post the shoes. So I emailed the buyer and said 'so sorry I will express them and because they are so late I will give you a second pair free'. Now you are possibly thinking that I am crazy for giving away perfectly good shoes. But in my sake I am just being a good samaritan and need room in the closet (I also haven't worn these shoes for around 4 + years, still neatly tucked away in their box).

So I finally went to my local post office and didn't believe it when the customer service officer said 'did you know that it is $39 to express post them to Adelaide'..... it is WHAT. I then asked how much the standard postage 'It is around $19' she replied. After seriously considering I need to take the cheaper option I thought 'no it's my fault, I will just pay the $39'. So from trying to clean my closet out and make a few dollars along the way I am now $28 in arrears. You are now probably think 'gee she is either an idiot or can't do maths' . I just see it as I am a giver.... giving away perfectly good shoes because I was too busy to to do the right job 1 week ago.

And if my husband is reading this and is thinking 'you spent HOW MUCH' on postage'. Don't worry honey. I will make it up to you :-)

Moral of the story, on ebay the buyer always wins. The seller is still in recovery mode. That $28 could have gone towards something new - oh that's right I am not aloud to shop.

Day 8 - Easy As

When you have been up all night with a boy that isn't well and wants to feed every two hours you then discover that come morning you need to find something to that you can get off to work quickly and still look respectable for meetings.

After having my son I know that I wouldn't be able to wear dresses due to breast-feeding. When I came across this dress it was a winner straight away but not in my size.

This dress is one of those that I made my friend go and pick it up on the Gold Coast as it was on sale and I had to have it. You know things are going downhill when you start calling your friends that are close to shops that stock a certain item to go in the next day and pick it up(shops usually only hold for 24-48 hours). I was lucky that a friend just did that. I am sure it was more of an excuse for her to go shopping on a Sunday (for someone to go out for me on a Sunday, either it's commitment or just a great friend).

I was even luckier when I received it 3 days later in the mail as she thought it would be a good idea to send it to me incase the size was wrong and I had to change it before the end of a 14 day return policy period. Oh she knows me too well.

What can I say it was a perfect quick option but I gave myself extra points for wearing different shoes. Little booties, I think that makes shoe number 6 or 7... snaps for me :-)

Day 7 - Impressing myself

Today, I was very impressed with myself. Not only did I find a complete outfit that didn't include pants (it tends to be a staple work item) but I also took the time to find a combination that I have never worn. When you start to look at your wardrobe you soon find that there is much more than meets the eye.

Unfortunately I was in a hurry to get changed after work and forgot to take a photo. This outfit was a pencil black skirt with a wrap grey top. Stockings and my trust snake skin shoe. I had never really worn the top with a skirt before and thought this was a dressy look for work. Since this week was a little colder I decided to go with a stocking option. I really liked this outfit and know that I could certainly wear it to work more often.

Work is a good way of me avoiding the shops or thinking about what to buy. Every night it makes me think what I could find or what combination is going to be a winner for the next day.

I finally came clean with work as to the blog I am writing. Not that I am going to do it at work but it's the whole commitment thing I am then locked into. As you work so closely with others they tend to be the ones that will manipulate to eating the extra piece of chocolate or give you grief if you are on a diet and you break it(I still hide the McDonalds wrappers from my boss). These are the people who will monitor you and ask how it is going. So I know that by telling them I have seriously locked myself into this so called contract.

Some would say if you told your husband he would be the one on your back. Not likely in this household. My husband would be the one that wouldn't even notice if it was new, never worn, old (I class old as older than 1 month few weeks), or ancient (older than a year). I could wear the same thing every day and seriously he wouldn't notice. I am the type of female shopper that would buy things and quickly get them into the wardrobe as if they have been there all along. Either stupid or he doesn't even bother asking. I would actually give him the benefit of the doubt and say he isn't that stupid. Just doesn't bother going there.... good man. He must notice that the shoe boxes which used to take up one side of the wardrobe now takes up two. If not, I think he needs his eyes checked. My husbands side to the wardrobe has gone from 50/50 now to 75/25. As if he needs any more than 10%, I think I am being generous.

I could sit here all day writing about my shopping tactics but then what am I going to keep for the rest of the challenge and my daily update.

Day 6 - Testing me with Two

Nothing like a Sunday where I need to find two sets of outfits. One for day, one for night. Again I have stayed the tights (these are different to the one from yesterday) and easy to wear dress teamed with a cardigan and ballet flats. Sunday is always an easy day but without over thinking it s I started to look for items I haven't worn for a while and this is what I came up with.

The second look for evening is my fabulous pair of Bettina Liano jeans (and very impressed that they fit). The top is another easy breezy number and to make it that extra special I added a blazer. This blazer was one of the best investments while I was pregnant. It is best worn unbuttoned and relaxed. Therefore a great work option and look I can even wear it now.

I am such a lover of shoes and boots are no exception. I like to be able to change an outfit just by the shoes you wear. This challenge is not only intended for me to wear as many items of clothing in my wardrobe over the 60 days but to also wear at least 20 different pairs of shoes. Shoes are one of my weaknesses. I have always said that it doesn't matter what size you are, shoes will always fit. So if you are having one of those 'less than perfect' days but still want to shop. Shoes are it... hence the explanation of the holistic problem. It's not just the shopping of clothing. Shoes are remarkably just as important for this challenge. Unless you have your boxes marked or a photo displaying the shoe you do forget the shoes you have. It isn't until I am on my way out for an event or work that I actally realise a number of shoe items I could have worn with the same outfit. A few months ago I went through my shoe collection and couldn't count (or didn't want to) the number of shoes I have never worn. So far in this challenge I have worn 5 different pairs. I am quiet impressed so far. See if I can crack the magical 20.

Day 5 - Wardrobe Clensing

A cold rainy day calls for time at home to do a little spring cleaning. This then leads to the wardrobe. When I was pregnant I packed about dresses, jeans and clothing that obviously wasn't going to fit for a few months. When I opened the boxes today I was surprised to see how many clothes I really didn't need and others that I can now fit into and will certainly wear. By packing away these items it was like opening up a whole new wardrobe that I forgot about. From this I was able to fill a garbage bag full of clothes for charity. I am happy to at least to give away many items, and all of them in great condition and I swear only wore them a couple of times, if at all. I am one of these people that because it is on sale I will buy it and think 'I know I will need that one day' and that day never arrives. My tip to people that have an overflowing wardrobe is to pack some of it away. When you reopen it after 3-6 months. If you love it you will keep it and if you think 'I never missed it' then it has to go.

Today I found a piece of clothing to wear that I bought post pregnancy but have only worn it once. It was one of those items that seem get suck in to the cupboard and overcrowded by other items. It is easy to wear and comfortable for lounging around the house in between the actual housework that needs to be done. Military inspired jersey teamed with a pair of (the best in the world) leggings. These are from Witchery and are designed to suck you in and provide the necessary shape, designed to sit on the waist there is no muffin top in sight. At $39.95 that are perfect - I have even bought two (and now your thinking problem, what problem??). I love this type of clothing, it is easy to wear and works in summer and winter. You will find this trend throughout the challenge as I have many items that are worn this way, I think I started during this because it was easy while being pregnany and it also meant I didn't have to purchase ugly pregnancy clothing. But remember I can only wear this outfit once.

Day 4 - Old Favourites

I know that towards the end of this challenge is when it is really going to difficult because I always seem to go straight to the 'old favourites'. These are my trusty pants that are not only comfortable but I can either wear them with sandals, heels or in today's case wedges. They can be dressed up or dressed down and of course they are in black. I purchased them a few years ago on sale at Witchery and have seen one pregnancy, many days shopping, travel and going out. What more can you ask from a pair of pants that cost you $40.

Brisbane was overcast and raining today so the last thing I wanted to do this morning was spend much time trying to work out what to wear. Even thought I did some quick groceries I didn't really go anywhere. My son and I just relaxed at home. I really could have chosen a tracksuit for the day but I am really trying to make an effort here. That's why I chose the wedges and not the thongs. These wedges are my absolute favourite. I purchased these when I was in the states last year and they are a fantastic shoe. Comfortable, stylish and go with nearly every outfit.

Fashion certainly reflects your day, whether it is overcast, the mood you are in and what you are going to be doing that day. It sometimes over shadows the decision making process which is sometimes why we go straight for the quick fix or the old favourite you just can't do without. Today was all about the easy item that you love. But how much am I going to be wanting it again before the end of the 60 days.

I also can't believe that I went to the shops today and only walked through Woolworth's, Starbucks for a coffee and then home..."NO clothing or shoe SHOPS". Very impressed with myself however the test will come on the weekend, especially if the rain is going to stick around for a while.

Day 3 - Changing Habits

Apparently it takes around 21 days to change a habit or form a new habit. So in other words I have 18 days to go until I get the hang of it. Shopping challenge, I am doing ok, finding clothes each day to wear, not bad. But blogging, hopeless. Where do people find the time these days to do so much. I didn't get a chance to blog last night. Why? Because I had an unhappy guy (and that wasn't my husband) when I got home from work and he needed all my attention. Therefore I left my laptop in the car. I did ask my husband to go and get my things from the car however they were still there this morning. Clearly I must not have asked loud enough for him to hear me. Hence the reason I am blogging now for the day before. Two blogs in one day.. ouch.

Here is the debrief on Day 3 of my wardrobe challenge. I did find some clothes the night before and put them out so I wouldn't be running around screaming "what to wear" come the morning. And to my surprise I was able to find some clothes that I haven't worn for ages (very impressed with myself). These pants are pre pregnancy and the top is very old so I am certainly finding things that are not just on the surface. I do also sway towards wearing black, and the only black in this outfit was my belt. I did resort to the same shoes as Day 1. They are fantastic for work, look great and above all very comfortable.

So how is the non shopping part of the challenge going? Well great so far. But that is because I have been pretty busy and have worked two days this week. Next week I am back to three days of work which will keep me out of the shops however it is the weekend that will test me. So I guess stay tuned.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Day 2 - Over thinking

Well you would think that from day 1 I would have learnt my lesson about being prepared and taking time to try and find outfits to wear. Well you guessed wrong. This morning was my day off so I had sometime to try and find an outfit and for the next 60 days I won't wear again. It has also started to warm up and I wanted to wear something that was easy and comfortable. Amongst all that is in my wardrobe I could only come up with a maxi skirt and singlet tee. It doesn't sound that bad but when you look at the past two days I am certainly not winning any points in the fashion stakes. This outfit was teamed with a pair of gold gladiator sandals, which was possibly the better part of the outfit.

By the end of the day when I was happy to get out of my clothes i thought what am i doing wrong. I have a whole wardrobe full of clothes and seriously that is all I could come up with so I have concluded to the thought that I am over thinking this whole process and not letting it come naturally. I really do need to go through my wardrobe and find clothes properly (one of the main points of this whole challenge). Not just the first thing that pops up. I also know that my big downfall is as I mentioned yesterday - the accessories. I think an outfit can be fixed and appear put together with the right accessories. As you can see by the picture, this didn't happen.
My goal for tomorrow is to be prepared. Which is what I am going to do now. I am back at work tomorrow so I think I will find something tonight so I am not in a mad rush in the morning.

Day 1 - Working Backwards

As this is the first official day of my challenge I don't think I started on a creative high. But then I thought 'out with the old and in with the new' - or in other words 'work backwards'. Start wearing the clothes you wouldn't normally wear and then at least you leave your favourites until last or at least until the challenge starts to get hard. Of course I also had to start the challenge on a work day. Which always makes it so much more difficult to get 'wardrobe motivated' in the morning. A typical work day starts with my lying in my bed and doing a mental scan of my wardrobe and ask myself the following questions. What fits? What needs ironing? What will go with this and what will go with that? What is clean and what shoes will finish the outfit. I try and work out an outfit in my head and locate all items mentally before I attempt to find anything. This is possibly why I have no idea of what I own because visually I can't see the items at the back of the wardrobe. It would be far easier for me to plan out my wardrobe every Sunday night ready for the week ahead but that would be cheating.....wouldn't it??

So what did I come up with? Just a standard look of black pants, t-shirt dress cinched in at the waist by a patent belt. Easy and a somewhat a classic office post pregnancy look. Oh, and I possible forgot to mention, since I am breastfeeding I limit my work wardrobe to tops that are easy to maneuver when I need to duck into the on site daycare to feed the hungry little guy. The hungry little guy is only 11 weeks old so I can be forgiven with the creative site to this challenge might go a little by the way side every now and then. Comfort while being quick and easy to put together is key hence dresses for work are out.

This outfit it actually pretty old. The top I purchased from Portmans when I was pregnant, the belt I have owned for a few years so I wouldn't have no idea where it originally came from and the pants are around 5 years old from Events. I did team this outfit up with a my trusty snake skin heels from Aldo. I purchased them in the States last year and they are fantastic. This certainly goes to show that I do wear clothing that is older and are some of the trusty items I can revert to when in a hurry.

So what did I think of my first day? Pretty good for a rushed job. Of course I did it's day one for goodness sake, if I thought that day one was hard, I am going to have problems.

My tip for day one
  • Keep the start of the challenge simple especially when it comes to items for work
  • Classic black pants are certainly a staple and then you can start to go through the different tops in your wardrobe. I think you would be surprised by how far you can get by having a classic black pant.
  • Utilise accessories wherever you can. If I didn't use this belt my outfit would have been quiet dull and boring. It was a choice to get me out of the house quickly without compromising on looking untidy.

What I could have done to improve the outfit
  • Add some jewelery, I am not great with adding jewelery as an accessory however this would have given the outfit something extra. I think a statement neck piece would have done the trick.

Am I CRAZY??

I have been thinking about this for sometime but very scared of committing to the actual challenge... or maybe that was the idea of not being able to shop for the next 60 days. Seriously, in the words of the very fashionable Rachel Zoe 'I DIE'.

Like most women, I never have anything to wear. Any yes it's true you only ever wear 20% of your wardrobe, the other 80% is just dying to get out and see the daylight. I also keep forgetting that I own so many pieces because they are stuffed in the back of the cupboard or squeezed into hanging space where I can't fit another item.

OK so here is the deal, for the next 60 days I am going to dedicate my life to completing this challenge, to save some money (well of course I will), to not drive my husband mad and to love my wardrobe all over again. So what is the '60 Day Wardrobe Challenge' and what are the rules.

The challenge - over the course of 60 days I will wear as many items of clothing in my wardrobe and something different everyday. So here are the rules (I have to give myself rules otherwise I have failed before I have even begun).

  • Wear a different outfit every day for 60 days
  • I can wear the same item twice or even three times however I can't wear it in the same combination.
  • I am not allowed to go shopping therefore I must use my creativity for coming up with new combinations
  • Over the course of 60 days I must also wear at least 20 different pairs of shoes (I also can't go shoe shopping... this one is going to be very difficult)
  • I can still purchase magazines for inspiration.... trust me I am no stylist so I need all the help I can get

During the next 60 days I have to find outfits for work, functions, nights out, day wear and weekends without resorting to tracksuits and joggers. I think I have really set myself a goal or two.

On another note - my sincere apologies to the retail economy.... I am sure you won't miss me over the next 60 days.

Anyway wish me luck as tomorrow is Day 1.
